Surgical recoveryIn development

Know how every patient is recovering, without making every call.

Interval Health checks in with your surgical patients by text after they go home, scores their answers and flags what needs a nurse or surgeon. Your team calls the patients who need it, not the whole list.

For orthopedic and spine practices and ambulatory surgery centers.
The problem

Post-op follow-up runs on phone calls

Calls that don't scale

Nurses spend hours on next-day and follow-up calls. Many patients don't pick up, and every call sounds the same whether the patient is fine or not.

Problems that surface late

A wound concern or uncontrolled pain often comes to light at the post-op visit, or in the emergency room, instead of the day it started.

No outcome record

Notes from phone calls don't add up to a measure of how patients actually recovered, by procedure or by surgeon.

How it works

From pre-op to day 30

  1. 1

    Pre-op intake

Before surgery, patients complete a short screening on their phone covering sleep apnea, depression, frailty and opioid misuse risk. It's scored automatically with validated scales and ready for the surgeon to review.

  2. 2

    Check-ins on a schedule

After discharge, a text goes out on days 1, 3, 7, 14 and 30. Patients rate their pain, report opioid use, answer wound questions and complete function scores. A few minutes, no app or password.

  3. 3

    Alerts when something's wrong

Answers that cross a threshold your practice sets, such as signs of infection or pain that's getting worse, alert your care team right away. Everything else is recorded and charted.

  4. 4

    Caregivers can answer

If a patient can't respond, a family member they choose can complete the check-ins for them.

Example · Knee replacement

Five check-ins, one recovery

What your team sees for one patient across the first 30 days. The day 3 wound answer raised a review flag; a nurse called the same afternoon.

What you get

What changes for your practice

Fewer routine calls

Your nurses call the patients whose answers need attention, instead of working down a list.

Earlier warning

A worrying answer reaches your team the day it's reported, not at the next visit.

Safer opioid tapers

See each patient's opioid use going down day by day, and who isn't tapering as expected.

Recovery you can measure

Pain and function scores at every check-in, so you can see recovery trends by procedure and by surgeon.

Your team decides

Interval collects, scores and flags. Your clinicians review every alert and make every call.

For hospitals. Managing 30-day post-surgery outcomes? The same check-ins and recovery scores work across a hospital's surgical service.
